BHEL Wins Order for Emission Control Equipment

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) recently won an order for emission control equipment from Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company Limited (BRBCL), a joint venture of NTPC Ltd and Indian Railways.
The order involves supply and installation of Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) system at 4x250 MW Nabinagar project of BRBCL in Aurangabad district of Bihar. BHEL’s work includes design, engineering, civil works, supply, erection and the commissioning of a wet FGD system along with auxiliaries.
The company was one of the earliest entrants in the Indian market for emission control equipment, having successfully executed FGD system at Tata Power’s Trombay Unit 8 in 2008. With this order, BHEL is currently executing FGD systems for 27 units of NTPC and its JVs.
For NOx control, the company possesses in-house capabilities to supply the technology for reducing NOx levels through suitable boiler modifications. In addition, BHEL is supplying state-of-the-art Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCRs) for higher reduction in NOx emission. The company has also secured a technology collaboration with NANO Co Ltd, in the Republic of Korea, for SCR Catalysts in coal fired power plants.
